Cataluña is a big producer of olive oil in Spain, with its four denominations of origin, D.O. Siurana, D.O. Les Garrigues, D.O. Aceite de Terra Alta and D.O. Aceite del Baix Ebre-Mointsià.
Many varieties of olives are cultivated in this region, Arbequina, Verdiell, Royal and Morrut, obtaining an oil that is sweet or fruity, depending on when the harvest takes place.
The two most important province of Cataluña for olive oil productions are Tarragona and Lleida, the firs one with an important area near the Mediterranean Sea and the second in Les Garrigues region. |
